Professional
I have wanted to be a teacher for a long as I can remember, when I was 4 years old I wanted to be a teacher or a ballerina. Considering my lack of poise and talent, I am very glad I chose to be a teacher. I have taught kindergarten for over 10 years. I have also taught 1st grade, 3rd grade, 5th grade, 6th grade and 7th grade. Besides teaching, I have also written several textbooks for a company called Complete Curriculum.
My Blog
After reading so many blogs, I have decided to begin blogging to share ideas that I use in my classroom. I thought it would help to repay some of the teachers for all of the wonderful ideas they have been sharing. I chose to name my blog "A Rainbow of Teacher" for a very special reason. My mom passed away in February, 2009. She thought I was an "amazing" teacher and was my #1 fan. Whenever I see a rainbow, I feel like she is watching over me. So, I named my blog in honor of her.
My Family
I couldn't be a teacher without the support of my family. My husband is the one who runs my errands and gets me my stuff for free. He has been sent to get paper bags to make Indian vests from and paint sticks for me to make center activities with (even though at times he looks at me like I'm crazy). My teenage son is my go-to guy for computer questions and he is becoming very involved in making my graphics. I have a daughter who even though she claims "I'm not becoming a teacher" is invaluable to me. She can make copies, is an expert laminator and paper grader. Both of them used to come to school with me, but now are in high school. I don't know what I'm going to do without their help each day.
